چکیده
The study of the SPL (Superconducting Proton Linac), a 4 MW / 2.2 GeV H linac, began at CERN in 1999. Based on the large inventory of RF equipment decommissioned from the LEP (Large Electron Positron collider), it was originally proposed as an upgrade to the injector complex for the high energy accelerators. Since that time, the proposal has attracted the interest of an increasing number of physics communities and the design has evolved in consequence. The present design of the SPL is presented in this paper, together with a proposal for a staged realization. 20 ICFA Advanced Beam Dynamics Workshop on High Intensity and High Brightness Hadron Beams, 8-12 April 2002, Fermilab, Chicago, USA Geneva, Switzerland 21 June 2002 Status and Plans of the SPL Study at CERN R. European Organization for Nuclear Research Cern - Ps Division Cern/ps 2000-026 (pp) Status of Studies for a Neutrino Factory at Cern
There is a strong interest from the physics community for high-quality, high-intensity neutrino beams as produced by a neutrino factory. With the help of other European laboratories, CERN has started a study on some of the many technological challenges of such a facility. Present ideas concerning the proton driver, as well as the muon accelerator complex, are presented and plans for the future ...

Development is necessary in a large number of technologies before a Neutrino Factory complex can be built. In the case of the CERN project [1, 2, 3], with the help of other laboratories, work is progressing on the systems incorporated in the reference scheme. The subjects under investigation, the status of the studies and the trends of evolution of the scheme are described. HEACC'2001, 26-30 Ma...

In order to set up a powerful proton source for a future Neutrino Factory, increasing at the same time the flux of protons available for new and existing facilities, CERN is studying a 2.2 GeV superconducting Hlinac for 4 MW beam power, called SPL. The superconducting part of this linac covers the energy range from 120 MeV to 2.2 GeV. Three sections made of 352 MHz cavities with nominal ß of 0....
متن کاملEUROPEAN ORGANISATION FOR NUCLEAR RESEARCH CERN – PS DIVISION CERN NUFACT Note 085 CERN/PS 2001-051 (RF) BEAM DYNAMICS OF NON-EQUIPARTITIONED BEAMS IN THE CASE OF THE SPL PROJECT AT CERN
The SPL [1] working group at CERN is studying a 2.2 GeV Hlinac, which recuperates a large amount of RF hardware from the now decommissioned LEP at CERN. During the ongoing design effort for an optimized layout, it was found that in some cases non-equipartitioned beams tend to exchange energy between the longitudinal and the transverse planes. Strict energy equipartition, however, imposes tight ...
متن کاملEUROPEAN ORGANIZATION FOR NUCLEAR RESEARCH CERN - PS DIVISION CERN/PS 2002-059 (RF) CLIC Note 532 CLIC 30 GHZ ACCELERATING STRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
The main effects which limit accelerating gradient in CLIC (Compact Linear Collider) main linac accelerating structures are RF breakdown and pulsed surface heating. Recent highlights of the structure development program are presented, including demonstration of higher accelerating gradients using tungsten and a complete redesign of the CLIC main linac accelerating structure, based on reduced su...
